What is Flower of Life?

The Flower of Life is a geometric pattern composed of multiple evenly-spaced, overlapping circles arranged in a hexagonal pattern. The complete pattern contains 19 circles, forming a flower-like design that has been revered across cultures for thousands of years.

This pattern is considered the visual representation of the connections life weaves through all sentient beings. It demonstrates how all life comes from one source—the first circle—and expands outward in perfect harmony.

Within the Flower of Life, you can find nearly every major sacred geometric pattern: the Seed of Life, the Egg of Life, the Fruit of Life, Metatron's Cube, the Platonic Solids, and the Merkaba.

Historical Context

Ancient Egypt (circa 1500 BCE)

The oldest known example is carved into the granite walls of the Temple of Osiris at Abydos. It appears alongside other sacred symbols, suggesting it held deep spiritual meaning for the Egyptians.

Ancient Israel

Appears in synagogues dating back to the 2nd century CE, often alongside the Star of David.

India

Found in Hindu temples, where it represents the cosmic order and the unfolding of creation from Brahman (the ultimate reality).

Medieval Europe

Leonardo da Vinci studied the Flower of Life extensively, using it as the basis for his explorations of proportion, including the famous Vitruvian Man.

The Science

Cell Division

The first stages of embryonic development follow the pattern of the Flower of Life. A fertilized egg divides into 2 cells, then 4, then 8, forming the same geometric progression seen in the pattern.

Molecular Structure

The hexagonal arrangement mirrors the structure of benzene rings in organic chemistry and the lattice structure of graphene, one of the strongest materials known.

Neuroscience

Studies show that viewing symmetrical, repetitive patterns like the Flower of Life can induce a meditative state, reducing stress and promoting emotional balance.

What It Means

The Flower of Life represents interconnection. It's the visual reminder that nothing exists in isolation—everything is part of a larger whole, connected by invisible threads.

This is the symbol for flow days. Days when you're not forcing, not pushing, just moving with the rhythm of life. It's for artists, healers, and anyone who needs to remember they're part of something bigger.

Core Principles

  • • Unity over separation: Recognize your connection to others and the world
  • • Balance over extremes: Find the middle path, avoid burnout or stagnation
  • • Flow over force: Move with life's rhythm rather than against it
